The Ghana High Commission in the United Kingdom has taken a significant step in strengthening engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora through the launch of its official publication, The GH London Mission magazine.

The initiative, led by Bridget Bonnie, Head of Information and Public Affairs at the Ghana High Commission, was developed as a strategic platform to inform, connect and showcase Ghana to the diaspora community often described as Ghana’s “17th Region.”

Bridget Bonnie led the editorial team responsible for conceptualising and producing the publication, working with the Mission to create a platform that informs, connects and amplifies the voice of Ghana’s diaspora.

Recognising the growing influence and importance of the diaspora in Ghana’s development, the publication provides a dedicated platform where stories about Ghana can be told by Ghanaians themselves, ensuring authenticity and accuracy in the country’s narrative.

Editorial Board Chair, H.E. Mrs Sabah Zita Benson, Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom and Ireland, noted the importance of telling Ghana’s story from an authentic Ghanaian perspective.

“For a long time, many of our stories have been told by others, sometimes missing the context and richness of who we are as a people.

Through The GH London Mission, we are creating a platform where Ghanaians can tell their own stories — stories of innovation, culture, resilience and opportunity.”

Speaking on the vision behind the publication, Bridget Bonnie explained that the magazine was conceived not only as a communication tool for the Mission but also as a bridge between Ghana and its global community.

According to her, the publication will play an important role in promoting Ghanaian businesses by offering them visibility within diaspora markets.

Businesses in Ghana now have an opportunity to advertise their products and services directly to the Ghanaian diaspora and international audiences in the United Kingdom, creating avenues for trade, partnerships and investment.

The platform also enables entrepreneurs and institutions to showcase their innovations, initiatives and success stories to a wider global audience.

Beyond business promotion, the magazine also serves as a cultural and informational resource for the Ghanaian community abroad.

Through features on tourism, culture and national development, The GH London Mission introduces readers to Ghana’s rich heritage, highlighting tourist destinations, cultural traditions and travel opportunities.

The publication is particularly important for young members of the diaspora, many of whom were born abroad and may not yet have had the opportunity to experience Ghana firsthand.

The magazine also provides valuable information on consular services, scholarships, trade opportunities and diaspora initiatives, ensuring that Ghanaians in the United Kingdom remain informed about programmes and services available through the Mission.

As Ghana continues to recognise the diaspora as an important partner in national development, The GH London Mission magazine is expected to grow into a key platform for engagement, storytelling and opportunity.

By highlighting Ghanaian businesses, culture, tourism and opportunities back home, the publication reinforces the idea that wherever Ghanaians may be in the world, the diaspora remains an integral part of the nation’s journey — proudly recognised as Ghana’s 17th Region.

Through this initiative, the Ghana High Commission is ensuring that Ghana’s story is told authentically — by Ghanaians, for the world.
