Bono Police rescue woman from kidnapping

The Bono Regional Police Command has rescued a 30-year-old victim from kidnapping at Berekum in the region.

A statement issued and signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the Bono Regional Police administration, said the victim, Millicent Fosua, had since been reunited with her family.

The Police are investigating the incident, and no arrest has been made so far, a copy of the statement made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani indicated.

It explained that on October 29, 2025, the complainant, Samuel Amartey Laryea, and his wife (victim)  attended a funeral in Kyeremasu in the Dormaa Central Municipality of the region.

“However, on November 3, the complainant received a phone call from an unknown person that he (caller) had kidnapped his wife and therefore demanded GHC12,000 for her release”, the statement explained.

It said Laryea sent GHC2,000 through his mobile phone money account; however, the kidnappers failed to release the victim, and that prompted the complainant to report the matter to the Police.

The statement said the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate conducted an intelligence-led undercover operation and rescued the victim at Berekum.

The statement said the victim was subjected to physical abuse, verbal threats, and insults by kidnappers who also seized her mobile phone and forced her to provide her husband’s mobile phone number and the PIN code to his mobile money account.
