Bono police probe 'unnatural death' of woman found hanging

The Bono Regional Police Command has launched a comprehensive investigation into the sudden and “unnatural death” of a 43-year-old woman, Cynthia Boahemaa, whose body was discovered hanging in her room in the Penkwase suburb of Sunyani.

The distressing incident, which occurred on Friday, October 25, 2025, within the Sunyani East Municipality, has sent ripples of shock through the local community.

Discovery of the Deceased

The case was brought to the attention of the police by two concerned co-tenants, Hayford Nkansah and Adobea Eunice. According to their report, they found Cynthia Boahemaa suspended in her single-occupancy room.

Police personnel from the Bono Regional Command immediately dispatched a team to the scene.

Upon arrival, the officers confirmed the report, finding the victim hanging from a crossbar. She was observed wearing a white straight dress, with a cloth tied tightly around her neck, which was presumably the ligature used for the suspension.

Gruesome Scene Details

The initial police inspection of the scene revealed disturbing details that contribute to the ongoing classification of the case as an “unnatural death” investigation.

Investigators noted that there was blood oozing from the deceased’s nostrils, which had flowed down her body and stained the floor beneath.

This specific detail, often crucial in forensic investigations, is expected to form a key part of the police’s analysis as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the death.

Body Conveyed for Autopsy

Following the initial assessment at the scene, the body was carefully conveyed to the Sunyani Regional Teaching Hospital. A medical doctor at the facility officially confirmed the death of Ms. Boahemaa.

The deceased’s body has since been deposited at the Hospital Mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The autopsy is a critical next step, as it will provide forensic evidence necessary to determine the precise medical cause of death and the manner of death—whether it was a suicide, homicide, or accidental—to inform the police investigation.

Ongoing Police Action

Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, the Public Relations Officer for the Bono Regional Police Command, confirmed the incident and the ongoing investigation in a press release.

“The Bono Regional Police Command has commenced investigations into the unnatural death of Cynthia Boahemaa,” Chief Inspector Akeelah stated.

He assured the public that the investigation is active and thorough, confirming the body remains at the morgue as the police follow all necessary procedures to bring closure to the case.

The police are expected to interview the complainants, Hayford Nkansah and Adobea Eunice, in detail, along with other residents and potential witnesses in Penkwase to build a comprehensive picture of the events leading up to Friday’s discovery.

The findings from the post-mortem examination are eagerly awaited, as they will dictate the subsequent direction and focus of the criminal investigation.
