Board of State Housing unveiled at Staff Durbar

The Board of Directors of the State Housing Company Limited (SHC) has officially met with the staff and management of the company at a staff durbar held at the company’s head office in Accra.

The meeting was also attended virtually via Zoom by staff from the zonal and regional offices of the company.

The maiden engagement was organized to formally introduce members of the newly inaugurated Board to the staff.

The Board was inaugurated in June 2025 by the Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Mr. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei.

The 9-member Board, chaired by Mr. Ralph Roland, an experienced audit and finance professional was fully represented at the durbar.

The members are Mr. Chris Pobee Abbey, Mr. Michael Atta Agyei, Mr. Kofi Boamah Mensah, Nana Nuben Sra III, Barnabas Ninfom Tanaab, Nana Agyekum Kusi Ababio, Nurudeen Issifu Haruna, and the MD, Mr. John S. Bawah.

In his address, the Managing Director of SHC Mr. Bawah, outlined the state of the company prior to his assumption of office in February 2025 as well as the significant progress made since assuming office.

He highlighted some of the challenges he inherited relating to outstanding obligations to statutory bodies and numerous judgment debts incurred due to the previous administration’s inability to confront the issues decisively. Notable amongst these is an over GHC5 million debt owed to the GRA from 2023 and a CHRAJ judgment arising out of a wrongful dismissal of a manager of the company in 2019, which is costing the company over GHc4 million. These and many more, his administration has managed to resolve without disrupting the smooth operation of the company.

With a workforce of over 200 employees, Mr. Bawah also announced the Board approval for a staff alignment proposal aimed at correcting identified issues with staff placements. This initiative, he said, is aimed at improving the conditions of service for staff.

During the open forum, the Chairman of the Senior Staff Association, Mr. Richmond Acquah-Arhin, inquired about the Board’s vision for the company.

In response, Board Chairman Mr. Roland emphasized that the Board is committed to pursuing innovation in construction technology and partnerships with private sector investors to deliver more affordable housing options for the public, but also for staff of the company.

When asked about the conditions of service for staff, he said, “we know that conditions of service could be better but they are not bad . We are all in this together and I promise you that the board is ready to work with management to continue making improvements.”

He called on staff to adopt a united and collaborative approach to achieving this vision.
