Binduri: Family of five killed, another injured during night gun attack

Five persons, including two children, have been shot dead in a night gun attack by unidentified gunmen at Temgmasug, a farming community in the Koloku–Gumyoko Electoral Area in the Binduri District of the Upper East Region.

According to the Assembly Member for the area, Anaba Joseph, the tragic incident occurred between 7 and 8 p.m. on Friday night, November 7, 2025.

“I had a call around 7 to 8 p.m. yesterday that five people had been shot dead and another injured at Temgmasug under the Koloku–Gumyoko Electoral Area. Because of the ban on motorbikes, I couldn’t go there at night, so this morning I went there myself and saw it with my own eyes,” he recounted.

Mr. Anaba revealed that all the deceased were members of the same family, including a husband, his wife, their two children, and their family head, believed to be in his nineties.

“They were in the compound of their house when the attackers struck. When they heard the gunshots, they tried to run inside their room, but before they could enter, they were shot right at the doorstep,” he narrated.

The Assembly Member added that all the five were confirmed dead on the spot, while one other person, their relative sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Mr. Anaba explained that the gunmen, numbering about four, entered the community on foot. Before attacking the victims’ house, they first shot two cattle. Upon hearing the gunshots, the victims, who were lying in the compound, attempted to run into the room but could not make it in time.

“They shot all four, the man, his wife, and their two children right in front of their doorstep. The old man could not run, so he was still lying on the compound, and they shot him too. Only one person managed to escape with gunshot wounds and is currently in the hospital,” Mr. Anaba said.

He added that the attackers did not come with motorbikes.

“The house is just near a waterlogged area. After the killings, they picked a motorbike belonging to the victims. They seemed to have difficulties starting it, so they pushed it away while others continued shooting,” he added.

The Assembly Member confirmed that the bodies of the deceased had since been buried in line with Islamic custom, while the injured victim remains under medical care.

“All five have been buried, and I was there myself. We are really traumatized by the turn of events in our community. It is very sad,” Mr. Anaba bemoaned.

The Presiding Member of the Binduri District, Samuel Azure, who also confirmed the incident to Graphic Online, said the community was gripped with fear over the frequent attacks and killings of innocent citizens.

The gruesome killing has thrown the entire Koloku–Gumyoko Electoral Area into a state of fear and mourning.

Residents have expressed concern over rising insecurity in the area and have appealed for increased security presence to prevent further attacks.

The Presiding Member appealed to the District Security Council and the police to intensify patrols in the area to restore calm and reassure residents of their safety.

As investigations continue, residents of Temgmasug and surrounding communities remain anxious, hoping for swift justice and the restoration of peace in the Binduri District.
