Big Push secretariat to be established at presidency for real-time project monitoring – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has announced plans to establish a Big Push Project Secretariat at the presidency.

According to him, this is aimed at ensuring enhanced oversight, monitoring, and real-time tracking of infrastructure projects under his flagship Big Push initiative.

Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, September 16, Mr Mahama explained that the secretariat will leverage technology to monitor the progress of contractors and projects across the country right from the seat of government.

“They will take pictures, they will take videos,” he said. “And so I’ll be sitting at my office and I can see what First Sky is doing on the Ho-Aflao road, I can see what Oswal is doing on the Afienya-Dodowa road.”

He emphasised that the Big Push initiative will not only inject massive investment into critical infrastructure but also ensure transparency and accountability through rigorous project supervision.

Some residents who spoke to JoyNews expressed joy, noting that the road projects will bring them much-needed relief.

The Big Push programme was officially launched by President Mahama at Afienya in the Greater Accra region on Tuesday, September 16.

The government has allocated GH¢13.85 billion (US$892.9 million) for the Big Push programme.

There are 42 road projects under the Big Push Programme.

The Minister of Roads, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has indicated that all road contractors working under the Big Push initiative will undertake construction work all day.

This, he said, was to reflect the implementation of the government’s much-talked-about 24-hour policy, which has been identified as a game changer for physical and economic development.

Mr Agbodza said this at the sod-cutting ceremony for the Big Push project in Ho in the Volta Region.
