Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, the Member of Parliament for Assin South and a former Deputy Minister of Education, has urged President John Dramani Mahama to be prepared to sign the Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill into law once passed.

Mr Ntim Fordjour, who was one of the eight MPs who sponsored the bill in the 8th Parliament, reaffirmed his commitment to the legislation, stating that no leader would be allowed to evade responsibility on the matter.

In a post on X on Tuesday, 25th February, Mr Ntim Fordjour revealed that he had reintroduced the bill in the 9th Parliament, making it clear that it remains a priority for lawmakers.

@KevinEkowTaylor Tell your paymaster that he cannot escape this bill. He should get ready to sign it same way he wished for it. He issued a direct challenge to President Mahama, asserting, “Tell your paymaster that he cannot escape this bill. He should get ready to sign it the same way he wished for it.”

His remarks were in response to a post made by journalist Kevin Taylor, who had commented on the political implications of the bill.

Defending his long-standing advocacy for the legislation, Mr Ntim Fordjour insisted that his stance on the matter had remained unchanged since he entered Parliament in 2017.

“To feed your ignorant mind, I’ve been consistent with my principles on this bill since 2017 when I entered Parliament and continued steadfastly even as Deputy Minister,” he wrote.

The lawmaker also took aim at Kevin Taylor, implying that his criticism stemmed from personal discomfort with the bill’s provisions.

“I can imagine your extreme discomfort because you’ve been alleged to be practicing the abominable LGBTQ acts,” he added.

The Anti-LGBTQ+ Bill has been a highly contentious issue in Ghana’s political landscape, with its supporters arguing that it upholds traditional values, while opponents decry it as a violation of human rights.
