Bawumia won't pursue power through bloodshed – Akosua Manu

Akosua Manu, also known as Kozie, has said Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s leadership philosophy is rooted in peace, restraint and putting Ghana’s stability above personal ambition, arguing that this quality sets him apart in the New Patriotic Party’s ongoing internal contest.

Speaking on Sunday, December 28, during Dr Bawumia’s visit to the Adentan Constituency as part of his campaign to be re-elected to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections, the party’s 2024 parliamentary candidate for Adentan said the NPP’s history shows that it succeeds when it presents candidates who place the nation first.

“Our party has always won when we represent candidates who are nation-first, principled and people-centred,” she said, recalling how former President J.A. Kufuor demonstrated maturity after losing the 1996 elections. “When people wanted him to reject the results and act violently, he refused.

He even attended President Rawlings’ swearing-in ceremony. Ghanaians saw that character and rewarded him four years later.”

She also cited the 2012 elections, describing them as one of the most controversial in Ghana’s history, and noted that former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo similarly rejected calls for street protests.

According to her, Dr Bawumia, who served as the NPP’s key witness in the election petition, was central to that calm and lawful approach. “They chose the courts over violence, and four years later, Ghanaians rewarded that decision,” she said.

Akosua Manu stressed that Dr Bawumia showed the same commitment to peace during the 2024 elections, when intelligence suggested there could be unrest.

“On the eve of December 7, there were fears that the country could burn. Dr Bawumia put Ghana first. He believes that not a single drop of blood should be shed on account of his personal ambition,” she stated.

She maintained that this consistent record of restraint and respect for national stability explains why Dr Bawumia represents the values that have historically produced presidents for the NPP.

“Out of all the candidates seeking to lead our party, he is the one who truly embodies the belief that power must never come at the cost of Ghana’s peace,” she added.
