Bawumia made you part of decision-making, let’s reward him - Oppong Nkrumah tells former NPP executives

Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi Kojo Oppong Nkrumah has called on party members, particularly former executives, to acknowledge Dr Mahamudu Bawumia’s role in opening up the party’s decision-making process and to reward him with their support at the polls.

Addressing members of the party, Mr Oppong Nkrumah said he was pleased to see senior officials and former executives attending a meeting they would previously have shunned under the party’s old constitution.

“I am very happy this afternoon because I have seen some of the party’s big men who previously would not have attended meetings like this. In my own constituency, I have seen former vice chairmen, former deputy organisers, and former regional secretaries—many people who, if we were still using our old constitution, wouldn’t have come,” he noted.

He explained that the reforms, which expanded participation, were the result of deliberate changes led by the party through extensive nationwide consultations.

“Not long ago, the party announced that we would attend a conference at Legon, and we used that opportunity to review changes to our constitution. I was part of a group of about six people that the party set up, and together we toured all 276 constituencies in Ghana, engaging party leaders to determine what changes could be made to strengthen our constitution,” he said.

According to Mr Oppong Nkrumah, one of the most significant outcomes of the reforms was the decision to allow ordinary members and former executives to contribute to party business.

“One of the key reforms we introduced was to give you the privilege to cast your vote. Even if tomorrow you are no longer an executive, you can still take part in party discussions. This is because we made provisions to include former executives in the decision-making process,” he explained.

He further emphasised that these reforms were not made in isolation but through broad engagement with leading figures of the party.

“We engaged with former President Kufuor, Nana Addo Dankwa , Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and many other leaders. And I say this before God, with a clear conscience: one person who played a decisive role in ensuring that our former executives are part of today’s gathering is Dr. Bawumia. The positive ideas and goodwill you have brought have greatly helped to strengthen our unity,” he stressed.
