
Vice President, Dr Mahamadu Bawumia has announced he will contest in the New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s flagbearership race.
According to Dr Bawumia, he is prepared to lead the party to “break the eight.”
He made this known to the Majority caucus in a meeting on Tuesday, May 2, according to MyJoyOnline.com sources.
The NPP has scheduled its presidential primaries for November 2023.
The nomination period for the primaries will begin on 26 May and end on 24 June 2023.
Nine aspirants have so far declared their intention to lead the party.
They include former Trades and Industry Minister, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremateng, former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, and Francis Addai Nimo.
The rest are former MP for Essikado-Ketan Joe Ghartey, former general secretary of the NPP Kwabena Agyepong, Dr. Kofi Konadu Apraku and former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko.
