Workers under the Axle Load Control Programme in the Ashanti Region are calling on the government to retain them at post, claiming an improvement in revenue collection since the detection of alleged operational misconduct of managers.
According to them, there has been significant improvement in revenue since national security intervened and handed over management to a different group of staff in June 2025.
The four axle load stations at Akom, Ejisu, Adansi Asokwa and Kwadaso previously had overloaded trucks lining up along the roadsides in alleged attempts to bribe their way through at night.
Leader of the workers, Elvis Agyeman, says all the trucks now pass through the axle weigh stations smoothly, leading to improved revenue generation.
But he is worried about a planned change of leadership.
“We have heard that these station in the Ashanti region are about to be taken over by another administration which won’t help the nation’s development,” he claimed.
NDC constituency organizer for Afigya Kwabre North, Kwame Yallo, expressed his displeasure about the corruption in the system, which deprives the country of revenue.
“Ever since the national security took over the operation, we are generating more revenue than the previous order,” he said.
He wants the government to conduct an audit on the performance of managers of the axle stations.
