The 2023 edition of the Ave Maria Junior High school graduation has been held at the school’s premises at Dansoman in Accra.

After years of intensive academic work, the final year students passed out at a colouful graduation ceremony.

It was under the theme; prioritizing STEM education, transforming tomorrow’s leaders today.

Delivering the welcome address, the Headmaster of the school , Mr  Daniel Ayivor enumerated some of the activities held by the school during the term.

The activities included French week celebration, quiz competition, musical concerts, funfair, career day and school election, an event which was supervised by the Electoral Commission for the first time.

Mr Ayivor announced that the next academic year will witness the formation of robotics and swimming club, as well as a digital library project.

In his address, the Director of Education at the Ghana Education Service, Prince Charles Agyeman Duah, highlighted  the importance of STEM education adding that it is the best way to tackle poverty in the country.

He explained that the world is in an era which is controlled by science and technology that has a great impact on the world at large.

According to him, there is the need for students to be equipped with such skills to help them improve not only with the theory but also the practical aspect as well.

“In our National Science and Math quiz for instance, we can all attest to the fact that the students who represent the various schools are well-equipped with the theoretical aspect but when you go to the global platform where they are supposed to be innovative and creative in order to prove to the world that they can take independent decisions to benefit us as a nation, they become last and that is the reason why I do stand with the issue of STEM education.” Said Prince Charles Agyeman Duah.

He also announced that the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service has also taken notice of the same vision, and so far about seven STEM Senior High Schools are now being put up in the country and three more will be added.

The school’s cadet thrilled the invited guests with an exciting display while the schools cultural troupe performed various indigenous cultural dances from various regions.

The overall best student amongst the 63 graduating students Ms Fredericka Ashong Okpoti Dede, who picked up more prizes was adjudged overall best student.
