Academic City University recently hosted a delegation from the African Union’s International Centre for Girls and Women’s Education in Africa (AU/CIEFFA).
This is part of the Africa Educates Her campaign, aimed at advancing access and opportunities for girls across the continent, particularly in STEM fields.
The visit, facilitated in partnership with the Ghana Education Service (GES) and its Girls’ Education Unit, formed part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional collaborations that promote girls’ participation from the classroom through to professional careers.
The visit confirms Academic City’s commitment to providing an enabling environment that nurtures the aspirations of young girls in STEM.
During the engagement, discussions focused on expanding STEM pathways for young women, addressing barriers to inclusion and identifying practical ways tertiary institutions can support national and continental priorities on girls’ education.
Dr. Sena Agbodjah, Vice President, Academic Affairs at Academic City expressed appreciation for the visit and reiterated the University’s commitment to advancing and promoting gender equity in higher education.
According to her, the AU delegation’s visit reinforces the need for sustained collaboration among educators, policymakers and development partners to build a future in which every girl is equipped with the confidence and opportunity to thrive.
Madam Gifty Asiedu, AU CIEFFA Focal Person and Director of Girls Education at Ghana Education Service commended Academic City for championing initiatives that broaden access, inspire innovation, and support the development of young African women in STEM.
“When universities like Academic City invest in girls’ education, they are investing in the continent’s future. The impact goes beyond classrooms, it empowers communities, strengthens families and builds a resilient generation of female leaders,” she said.
