Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Assurances and Bimbilla MP, Dominic Nitiwul, says the Committee will, from July 2025, conduct a public hearing to ascertain from the Executive arm of government whether or not statements and promises made on the floor of Parliament have been executed.
According to him, the committee’s mandate to monitor the execution of assurances, promises, and undertakings made to Parliament by Ministers, Committee Chairpersons, Members, and other state officials will be thoroughly followed up to ensure that the interests of Ghanaians are well served.
Speaking at a three-day capacity-building workshop for members of the committee in Koforidua, Mr. Nitiwul stated that effective public speaking and diplomacy are basic skills underpinning the smooth execution of the committee’s mandate.

He said the capacity building workshop aims to booster members capacity in these areas of specialty.
“This is no small task, it requires meticulous attention to detail, a thorough understanding of Parliamentary procedure, and, perhaps most importantly, the ability to communicate effectively and persuasively.
“It is the duty of members of this committee to hold office holders who make assurances to Parliament responsible for their words and to ensure that the representatives of the people monitor promises and undertakings by office holders,” Mr Nitiwul noted.
He commended members of the previous Parliament for their dedication to work and promised the current committee commitment towards ensuring a more responsible conduct of public officials who make statements on the floor of Parliament.

Ranking Member on the Assurances Committee of Parliament and MP for Ejura Sekyeredumase, Muhammad Bawah Braimah, added that, as representatives of the people, they have a responsibility to ensure that promises made to the people are honoured.
He indicated that it can’t be the norm that Parliament approves a loan for the execution of a project and turns a blind eye to its execution.
“We represent the people, our first interest is to see to the betterment of our people. We will ensure that promises made on the floor of Parliament and to our people are executed.
“It shall not be the usual NDC/NPP politics. We will work together to ensure that promises made on the floor of Parliament are well executed,” he said.
