Asempa FM's Osei Bonsu recognised among Ghana’s most influential in Avance Media Top 100 Powerlist 2025

Renowned broadcast journalist, lawyer and media manager Philip Osei Bonsu, popularly known as O.B., has been named among Ghana’s most influential personalities in the inaugural Top 100 Ghanaians Powerlist 2025, released by leading African PR and rating firm, Avance Media.

The annual Powerlist recognises Ghanaians whose influence, leadership and authority have significantly shaped the country’s political, economic, social and cultural landscape over the past year. The list spans 10 carefully defined categories, cutting across governance, civil society, business leadership, media, sports, religion, traditional leadership, education, law and national security.

Philip Osei Bonsu is featured under the media category, in recognition of his impact as host of Ekosiisen on Asempa FM, Ghana’s leading late afternoon current affairs programme, widely followed both locally and internationally. Ekosiisen is a multiple award-winning political and public affairs show noted for agenda-setting discussions, rigorous analysis and accountability-driven discourse.

In an interview with Myjoyonline, O.B. said, “I am deeply honoured to be named among the top 100 Ghanaians Powerlist 2025 by Avance Media. This recognition truly reflects the hard work and sense of professionalism of my incredible team on EKOSIISEN. It also reflects the sense of duty and dedication to my chosen professions: Broadcast Journalism and Law. I’m really inspired to continue advocating for the voiceless and asking all the critical questions on behalf of the millions who listen to me every day. I’m really grateful for this honour”.

“This places an onerous responsibility on me. It means the whole country counts on me to continue to advocate for change through the influential platform God has given me. I’m indeed committed to doing just that; so help me God”.

Avance Media said selection for the Powerlist is guided by five key criteria: influence; leadership and authority; measurable impact; relevance within the year under review; and public visibility and accountability.

Speaking on the release, Prince Akpah, Founder and Managing Director of Avance Media, said the Powerlist goes beyond titles to examine real influence and impact, while provoking national reflection on leadership and accountability across Ghana’s evolving society.

The 2025 list features heads of the arms of government, business leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, creatives, sports icons and media personalities, including President John Dramani Mahama, Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin, Chief Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, and Vice President Prof Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang. It also highlights 28 prominent Ghanaian women, reflecting women’s leadership across national and international spheres.

Philip Osei Bonsu’s recognition places him among a distinguished group of national figures shaping narratives and influencing public life, reaffirming his standing as one of Ghana’s most impactful voices in media and public affairs.
