The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has reconstituted the leadership of the Ashanti Regional Armwrestling Association as part of its efforts to strengthen the development and promotion of the sport in the region. The move aims to take armwrestling to new heights and make it a household sport across the Ashanti Region.

The newly constituted regional leadership includes Mr. Kwabena Osei Tutu, Manager at Sikka FM, as Chairman; Mr. Philip Frazier Marvin Norman of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly as Vice Chairman; Ms. Sylvia Darko of the National Sports Authority as Secretary; Mr. Patrick Lartey of the Ghana Education Service as Technical Head; Mr. Sylvester Anane, a media practitioner, as Public Relations Officer; and Mr. Robert Amuzu as Member.

Mandate of the Regional Executives

The new leadership’s mandate includes:

  • Developing and promoting armwrestling in schools and communities within the Ashanti Region.
  • Sanctioning and managing armwrestling activities and competitions.
  • Establishing armwrestling clubs to nurture young talent and encourage participation.
  • Creating a regional armwrestling league to provide a competitive platform for athletes.
  • Soliciting support and partnerships to promote the growth of armwrestling.
  • Organising an annual regional congress to bring stakeholders together to discuss the sport’s development.
  • Providing training and capacity-building programmes for coaches, officials, and athletes to enhance skills and technical knowledge.

The leadership is also expected to foster collaborations with national and international partners, identify and nurture emerging talent, and increase grassroots participation to build a strong foundation for the sport in the region.

Chairman’s Commitment

In his acceptance remarks, Mr. Kwabena Osei Tutu, who has served in various armwrestling roles over the years, expressed gratitude for the appointment and pledged his commitment to the sport’s growth.
