The Ghana Armwrestling Federation (GAF) has paid a courtesy call on the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, to discuss ways to deepen relations between the two institutions.

The visit, characterised by warm interactions and an inspiring conversation, was also an opportunity to congratulate Mr Amadu on his appointment to the highest office in the Service.

Mr Charles Osei Asibey, President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation, who led the delegation, noted that the Ghana Immigration Service has been one of the Federation’s key partners since the inception of the sport in 2016, having produced the current national team captain, Edward Asamoah, and world referee Nii Otoo Larkyne.

According to him, despite some shortfalls, the security service has contributed significantly to the development of sports across various disciplines, with armwrestling being no exception.

President Osei Asibey highlighted that, through the support of personnel from the Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Armwrestling was able to win a total of 41 medals at the 2023 Africa Games.

He encouraged the Ghana Immigration Service to place greater emphasis on sports as a means of enhancing the image of the institution.

Mr Samuel Basintale Amadu, speaking during the brief meeting, thanked the delegation for their continuous support to the institution.

“The Ghana Immigration Service has been actively involved in sports. We have contributed to the development of sports on several occasions. We now need to intensify our efforts. This is a sports-friendly organisation,” he said.

He acknowledged that the Ghana Immigration Service had relied on past achievements for too long and emphasised the need to revitalise its sports teams to transform the institution’s presence in national competitions.

The Comptroller-General assured the Federation that plans were underway to inject new talent into the Service across various sports disciplines.

Mr Amadu expressed appreciation to the Ghana Armwrestling Federation for their kind words and wished the team well as they continue to work tirelessly to develop the sport and project Ghana internationally through outstanding performances.

As a symbol of a long-standing partnership between the Ghana Armwrestling Federation and the Ghana Immigration Service, the Comptroller-General was presented with a medal.

In attendance at the meeting were senior officers of the Ghana Immigration Service, Dr Kofi Addo-Agyekum, Vice President of the Ghana Armwrestling Federation; Mr Dickson Kyere Duah, Member of Parliament for Berekum West Constituency; Mr Husseini Akuetteh Addy; Mr Godfrey Amarteifio; Mr Prosper Ashiquaye; Ms Phillipina Frimpong, and other key members.
