Anloga in mourning as bee invasion at EP School claims two young lives

The Anloga community in the Volta Region has been thrown into deep mourning following a tragic bee invasion at the Anloga Evangelical Presbyterian (EP) School that has claimed the lives of two children, with unconfirmed reports suggesting a possible third fatality.

The heartbreaking incident occurred shortly after a carols service on the school compound. What began as a peaceful gathering quickly turned chaotic when a swarm of bees reportedly invaded the area, attacking pupils and triggering panic among children and adults alike.

Among the victims was a nine-year-old girl, described by residents as a special child, who fought bravely for her life after sustaining severe bee stings. Despite frantic efforts to save her, she sadly succumbed to her injuries.

She was the daughter of Edwin Yao Amewovi, popularly known as Efo Yao, from Anlo Afiadenyigba, who resides in Anloga with his wife, Augustina. The child’s prolonged struggle before her death has left the family and the wider community emotionally shattered.

A few hours after news of her death spread through Anloga, tragedy struck again when another affected child reportedly died, deepening the shock and sorrow. Additionally, there are unconfirmed reports that a third child may have also passed, further heightening fear and trauma among residents as families anxiously await official updates.

Residents say the pain is worsened by the fact that the affected families are from very humble backgrounds, making the sudden medical and burial expenses overwhelming.

The loss of the nine-year-old special child, in particular, has touched hearts across the town, as many recall her quiet strength and daily struggles.

Grieving over the incident, the father of the first deceased child, Edwin Yao Amewovi, said preparations are underway for the burial of his daughter at Anlo Afiadenyigba, even as the family continues to struggle emotionally and financially.

The family has made a heartfelt appeal to the public for assistance of any kind to help them through this devastating period.

Meanwhile , Freida Abla Amable, a social media humanitarian and native of Anloga known for supporting vulnerable individuals, visited the bereaved family with a donation. She used the opportunity to appeal to the public to extend support not only to the grieving family but also to other children who are still receiving treatment following the incident.

According to preliminary information, the Ghana National Fire Service was called to the school to help control the situation and prevent further attacks. Several pupils were rushed to health facilities, with some reported to be in critical condition.

As of the time of filing this report, the Ghana Education Service and school authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The Headmaster of the school is said to have remained at the hospital since the incident, staying close to affected pupils and families.

Anloga remains gripped by fear, sorrow, and unanswered questions. Parents are mourning, children are traumatised, and a community is united in grief—calling for support, accountability, and urgent measures to ensure the safety of schoolchildren, so that such a tragedy never occurs again.
