Mr Richard Akpokavie, President of the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC), has assured stakeholders that the OlympAfrica community sports development project at Amasaman will receive immediate attention.

He said the move is to ensure the facility’s completion for effective use by the community and the youth.

The GOC President made this statement during a working visit to the OlympAfrica site alongside members of the GOC Executive Board.

The purpose of the visit was to assess the current state of the facility and engage in discussions on strategies for its development.

During the tour, the GOC Board witnessed first-hand the potential of the OlympAfrica project to promote sports development in Ghana.

President Akpokavie, who expressed concern about the neglect of the site and the slow pace of development since its acquisition in 2010, reaffirmed the GOC’s commitment to the project.

He was clear that the GOC alone could not complete the project and stressed the importance of collaborating with stakeholders to enhance youth training and sports development in local communities.

He further emphasised that the OlympAfrica project has the potential to become a hub for identifying and nurturing young sporting talent in Ghana.

The GOC Board, expressing urgency and determination, resolved to take significant steps towards the quality development of the site to realise the full potential of the project.

The GOC has pledged its commitment to the project’s success through expedited action, which is expected to positively impact sports development in Ghana, particularly in the Amasaman locality.

Beyond community development, the GOC aims to use the facility to provide opportunities for young athletes to develop their skills and compete at the highest levels. The site is also intended to serve as a suitable environment for national teams to camp and prepare.

“The OlympAfrica project will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sports in Ghana, and the GOC is dedicated to its successful completion through strategic and aggressive engagement with corporate institutions,” Mr Richard Akpokavie emphasised.
