A founding member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe says Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen should have raised the issues he outlined in his resignation announcement much earlier.

According to him, Mr Kyerematen had remained relatively quiet about the happenings within the party.

He emphasised that when a group of individuals become more interested in self-preservation than speaking truth to power, it becomes challenging to defend them during a crisis.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Super Morning Show on Tuesday, September 26, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe clarified that Mr Kyerematen has to be more courageous and outspoken about his concerns regarding the NPP.

He explained that during the former Trade and Industry Minister’s resignation address, he referred to certain party leaders and elders, including government appointees who he believed had taken control of the party, but he did not name them.

“He made mentions of certain things. Who are those few people? Alan should be bold. The problem with him is that he’s not bold,” he said.

Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe believes that Mr Kyerematen could have made a more significant impact if he had resigned from cabinet and governance a year ago.

“He was very much aware at that time of all the infractions that was going on in the government but he didn’t say a word.

“He’s a person that as of now I respect a lot for his credibility but Alan should be bold and talk, that’s exactly his problem. Because if he had been bold, he wouldn’t even have stepped down for Akufo-Addo even though I was then supporting Akufo-Addo,” he noted.

The NPP stalwart stressed that if Mr Kyerematen wants to be a leader, he must be bold and confront wrongdoings within the party.

“He knows all the problems we have in the party, he’s aware of them, that the party leadership is full of selfish men. Incompetence, arrogance, greed and tribalism, this is what is killing NPP now.

“I have been in the party back from the onset, I knew Alan when he was a young man. He must be strong and that’s exactly what Alan lacks and that is what has brought us to where we are today,” Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe stressed.

Commenting on his recent call for former President John Agyekum Kufour to act as a unifying force within the NPP, Dr. Nyaho-Tamakloe acknowledged that Mr Kufour’s intervention could have prevented Mr Kyerematen’s resignation.

“I say that because Kufour is listened to a lot by young people in our party and a large group of people in NPP listen to Kufour and a word from him is taken seriously.”

He noted that the country is in economic crisis and expressed his belief that if the former president were to address the nation on current issues, it could contribute to the much-needed peace and resolution.
