Former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, hosted a breakfast meeting with the five presidential aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) at his private residence in Nima, Accra.

The meeting, according to a statement from his office , was aimed at fostering unity and camaraderie among the aspirants as the party prepares for its presidential primaries slated for January 31, 2026.

In his opening remarks, former President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude to the aspirants for honouring his invitation despite their busy campaign schedules, describing their participation as a show of commitment to the collective good of the NPP.

“Your presence this morning is a testament to your shared commitment to the collective good and prospects of our party,” he said.

He reminded the aspirants that he has worked closely with each of them and holds them in high esteem, noting that their candidacies are built on merit and their significant contributions to both the NPP and the nation.

The former President urged the aspirants to conduct their campaigns in a healthy and issue-based manner that highlights their respective visions for the party and country.

“My primary commitment is to the unity of the NPP, the credibility of the process, and to ensuring that the party is fully energised and rallied to secure victory in the 2028 elections,” he added.

In a show of solidarity, all five aspirants — Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong — pledged to maintain a healthy but competitive campaign atmosphere. They also assured the former President of their commitment, and that of their supporters, to rally behind the eventual winner after the primaries.

They further emphasised the need for party unity and promised to uphold the spirit of togetherness in the aftermath of the internal contest.

The meeting was also attended by key NPP figures, including Hackman Owusu-Agyemang, Chairman of the NPP Council of Elders; Danquah Smith Buttey, Acting National Chairman; Justin Kodua Frimpong, General Secretary; Alexander Afenyo-Markin, Minority Leader; and Akosua Frema Osei-Opare, former Chief of Staff.

Former President Akufo-Addo concluded by urging the party’s leadership to ensure a transparent and credible process that would preserve unity and strengthen the NPP’s chances ahead of the 2028 general elections.
