Residents of Akontombra Nkwanta, a community in the Aowin municipality of the Western North Region have expressed concern over the poor telecommunications network in the community.
According to them, the situation is affecting their social and economic lives and is even more dangerous in times of emergency.
Speaking in an interview with Adom News, the residents disclosed that a network mast has been planted in the community but has not been completed to provide network service for its residents.
They revealed that the problem is concerning, as workers like nurses and teachers assigned to the area do not want to accept their placement due to this challenge.
“I have to raise the phone to be able to place a call. My child is in the hospital but I cannot call to see how he’s doing. We plead with the government to help us.”
“In fact, if you need something or you want to talk to someone from another town, you have to stand by the roadside to be able to place a call. There are some things people do not have to hear but because others are standing by you at the same place making a call, you will be heard,” another said.
The Assemblyman for Akontombra Nkwanta electoral area, Tobo, James Ampofo appeals to the government to complete the telecommunication network for them.
“The pole has been here for almost three years but it hasn’t been completed because there is no money. Before you make a call, you have to go elsewhere to do that. I’m pleading with the government to help us. We are a lot of people here and in case of any emergency, it’s difficult to get in touch with someone.”
He calls on the government, the regional minister, and the DCE to address the issue by December, expressing gratitude for their assistance if they do so.
