The Member of Parliament (MP) for Akatsi North Constituency in the Volta region, Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, has released GH₵172, 000 to cover the tuition fees of some students from the constituency studying at the Colleges of Education and Schools of Hygiene across the country.

This initiative forms part of his continued commitment to empowering the youth through education.

The amount caters to the full tuition fees for the 2024/2025 academic year, benefiting 51 students, comprising 17 from Schools of Hygiene and 34 from Colleges of Education.

The MP’s office announced that students in Nursing Training Colleges and other tertiary institutions will be covered in the next quarter.

Commitment to Education and Youth Empowerment

Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, who has consistently prioritised education in his constituency, emphasized that this financial intervention is part of his broader agenda to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder students from achieving their academic dreams.

“This initiative reflects my firm belief that education is the key to our community’s development. Investing in our youth today will secure a brighter future for Akatsi North and the entire nation,” he stated.

Relief for Parents and Students

The gesture has brought significant relief to many parents and guardians struggling with the rising cost of tertiary education. Several beneficiaries have expressed their gratitude to the MP for easing their financial burdens.

“I was on the verge of deferring my programme due to a lack of funds. This support has saved my education,” said Priscilla Dzifa, a second-year student at the Ho School of Hygiene.

Educational Development in Akatsi North

Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe, a strong advocate for educational development, has initiated several projects, including classroom blocks, scholarship schemes, and ICT labs, since his election. This latest intervention aligns with his long-term vision of empowering the youth and enhancing human capital development in Akatsi North.

Future Support Plans

The MP’s office assured that similar support packages would soon extend to students in Nursing Training Colleges and other tertiary institutions, with plans to allocate additional funds in the next quarter.

Community reactions and impact

Community leaders and educational stakeholders in the constituency have lauded the MP’s efforts. Mr. Jonas Agbey, a local educationist, commended the initiative, noting that it would boost academic performance and reduce school dropout rates.

“This intervention is timely, especially when many parents are facing economic difficulties. It will motivate students to concentrate fully on their studies,” Mr Agbey remarked.

The release of GH₵172,000 for student fees is a testament to Hon. Peter Nortsu-Kotoe’s dedication to improving education and empowering the youth of Akatsi North. As the constituency looks forward to further support in the coming months, the initiative stands as a beacon of hope for students striving to achieve their academic goals.
