Ahmed Ibrahim, the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs, has praised the Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia, for enriching him with principles that have shaped his political journey.
He said for about two decades, the man he described as his political Godfather enormously groomed and guided him to climb up the political ladder as a Member of Parliament and Parliamentary leader, and now Minister of State.
He made the remarks at a thanksgiving service at the Church of Pentecost, Sakumono District, Sophia Cudjoe Temple, after he retained his seat in Parliament and his subsequent appointment as a minister.
Ahmed Ibrahim first became an MP in 2009 and is currently in his 5th term, representing his constituents.
According to the Banda MP, Asiedu-Nketia encouraged him to contest the seat at a time when he was a political novice.

“He taught me to be truthful, and that has been my guiding principle,” Ahmed, also the MP for Banda, said. “General Mosquito (Asiedu-Nketia) eschews lies because it brings one’s spirit down. He entreated me to be hard-working, compassionate, respectful, and live by the other Christian values”.
The minister noted that Asiedu-Nketia’s willingness to share his worthy experience as a former minister and a three-term MP with others was a way to avoid short-term glory in public life.
Mr Ibrahim recounted how government machinery was used against him before and during parliamentary elections as an opposition MP, “but in all the years of struggles and battles, General Mosquito was resolute behind me”, depicting the solid mark of a truthful and faithful leader worthy of emulation by young politicians.
”I am eternally grateful to General (Asiedu-Nketia) and ask for God’s blessings on him,” he prayed.
Ahmed Ibrahim, who was officially sworn in as the Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy, and Religious Affairs on January 24, 2025, confirmed the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service scheduled for July 1, 2025.
He said the service, which will be decentralised in all districts, is expected to help uplift every aspect of Ghana – spiritual and economic transformation – and it would be manifested through the leadership of President John Dramani Mahama.
“The Thanksgiving will help Ghana progress, including the stabilisation of the cedi and the realisation of other reset agendas by President Mahama,” he declared.
In his sermon, Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah Agyemang, the Teshie Nungua Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, urged Christians to pray for the leaders of the country such that they will be able to make decisions that positively impact the lives of citizens.
He emphasised the need for Ghana to have transformational leaders who “connote extraordinary accomplishments, break new ground and set new records”.
The Apostle further said Ghana requires, through prayers, leaders who also “have outstanding successes with strange or overwhelming impacts and go beyond the normal in command of the affairs of life”.
He urged the Minister, Ahmed Ibrahim, a member of the church, and all leaders of Ghana to “Make Godly adjustments in their lifestyle and spiritual life” because that is what attracts God’s blessings, which also benefits the people they serve.
The thanksgiving service was graced by some top NDC National leadership led by the chairman, Johnson Asiedu-Nketia; Bono Regional Chairman, Kwadwo Nyamekye Marfo; Bono Regional Minister, Joseph Addae Akwaboa; some MPs and other government appointees; friends; family; and the wife of Ahmed Ibrahim.
