Lawyer for popular evangelist and former traditional priestess Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has described her recent 15-year prison sentence as unjust and influenced by public perception.

Speaking in an interview with Citi TV, legal counsel Richard Asare Baffour argued that the ruling by the Circuit Court in Accra was unfair and largely based on Agradaa’s public image.

“We believe that Agradaa has been jailed not because of what she did, but who she is,” he stated.

“We believe that Agradaa has been loud on social media, she has stepped on several toes, and the kind of language she uses is not palatable. Some people don’t like her. All of those things came into play.”

On Thursday, July 3, the Circuit Court found Nana Agradaa guilty of charlatanic advertisement and defrauding by false pretence.

According to the court, she had used her television platform in 2022 to claim she possessed spiritual powers that could multiply money, claims which led many victims to part with large sums in hopes of receiving financial miracles.

The judge concluded that her actions were deceptive and targeted vulnerable individuals. However, her lawyer believes the punishment far outweighs the offence.

Mr Baffour insisted the verdict was not based solely on the law but was influenced by personal biases and public sentiment toward his client’s controversial persona.

He called the ruling a “travesty of justice,” arguing that Agradaa did not receive a fair trial and that bias played a role in the outcome

He also hinted that the legal team is currently considering their options and may take steps to challenge the ruling in a higher court.
