AGRA Ghana salutes Farmers as nation marks Farmers' Day

AGRA Ghana has commended Ghanaian farmers for their efforts in helping keep Ghana’s food secure as the country marks Farmers Day today.

In a statement signed by country director Dr Betty Annan, she said, “As Ghana marks National Farmers’ Day today, AGRA proudly joins the nation in congratulating and honouring our farmers for the extraordinary and tireless work that keeps our country food secure.”

“Farmers labour throughout the year, often without a day of rest. Setting aside a day to celebrate our farmers is not just symbolic; it is well deserved.

“Today, we salute our farmers across the country whose hard work ensures Ghana has food to feed her people and the raw materials that power our industries.”

“Your resilience, innovation, and unwavering commitment to building strong, sustainable food systems inspire us all,” the statement added.

Dr Annan noted that “At AGRA, we recognise the many challenges farmers continue to face, from the effects of climate change to limited access to inputs, markets, finance, and modern technologies.”

“Despite these obstacles, Ghanaian farmers rise every day with courage, creativity, and determination. We join the entire nation in expressing our profound gratitude for your remarkable service.”

This year’s theme, “Eat Ghana, Grow Ghana, Secure the Future.”

Dr Annan said the theme “strongly aligns with AGRA’s current Strategy, which seeks to unlock productivity, increase competitiveness, and strengthen agro-processing and trade.”

“We encourage all Ghanaians to choose locally grown food—supporting our farmers, boosting the nation’s economy and helping transform agriculture into thriving businesses that sustain the livelihood of millions,” the statement added.

The statement said AGRA remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering farmers through initiatives that enhance productivity, expand access to vital resources, and promote sustainable, climate-smart agriculture.

“Working hand in hand with the Government of Ghana, Academia and Research Institutions, the private sector, civil society, non-governmental organisations, and development partners, we will continue advancing efforts that add value and accelerate Ghana’s agricultural transformation.”

The statement disclosed that in recognition of the immeasurable contributions of our farmers to national development and Africa’s wider food systems transformation, AGRA is supporting the winners of the National Best Female Farmer, National Best Youth Farmer, National Best Differently Abled Farmer, and Northern Regional Best Youth Farmer.

“To all farmers across the country, we say: Happy National Farmers’ Day! We appreciate you, we celebrate you, and we wish you abundant harvests and strong returns in the year ahead and beyond. Akuafo Ayekoo!!!,” Dr Annan added.

AGRA is an African-led organisation focused on putting farmers at the centre of our continent’s growing economy.

AGRA advances uniquely African solutions to sustainably raise farmers’ productivity and connect them to a growing marketplace.

Together with its partners—including researchers, donors, African governments, the private sector, and civil society—AGRA seeks to create an environment where Africa sustainably feeds itself.
