The Association of Global Traditional Leaders in Development (AGLOTLED) has launched its “1 Child, 1 Book a Week” initiative at the Redemption Orphanage Home in Damongo, located in the Savannah Region.

The programme aims to promote literacy and foster a culture of reading and learning among children.

Established in 2006, the Redemption Children’s Home in Damongo has been providing care and support to orphans from Damongo and surrounding communities. The home currently houses 54 children and has successfully reintegrated many of its former residents into society.

During a donation and dinner ceremony with the children, the President of AGLOTLED, Nana Afia Siraa Ababio III—Queen Mother of the Werempe Division of the Berekum Traditional Council—officially launched the initiative.

The programme encourages each child to read at least one book per week, with the aim of nurturing personal development and academic excellence.

As part of the launch, AGLOTLED donated an undisclosed sum of money and several essential items, including bottled water and biscuits, to support the children’s welfare and education.

The group expressed joy in spending time with the children and pledged continued support in the future. They also used the occasion to advise the youth against substance abuse, peer pressure, and other social vices.

The Proprietor of Redemption Children’s Home, Pastor Abraham, expressed the home’s gratitude to AGLOTLED and appealed for further support, particularly in the area of infrastructure development, to improve the quality of care and education provided.

The “1 Child, 1 Book a Week” initiative is expected to significantly enhance the children’s academic performance and overall personal development.

Beyond the Redemption Children’s Home, AGLOTLED has extended similar philanthropic gestures to other groups across various regions of the country.
