The Hague African Festival 2025 transformed the Dutch city into a hub of African music, fashion and culture last weekend, celebrating creativity and social impact under the theme ‘Changemakers.’
Now in its 14th year, the festival, led by curator and director Augustina ‘MS ABA’ Austin, brought together artists from across Africa and the diaspora for concerts, exhibitions, films and community events over several weeks. The celebrations culminated in a colourful weekend finale at ZuiderparkTheater.
Ghanaian music star Epixode delivered one of the standout performances, teaming up with the all-female Infinity Band for a high-energy set with heartfelt tributes. Senegalese singer Omar Ka had crowds dancing to his infectious rhythms, while Tanzania’s Yacyn Wastara, a graduate of the festival’s talent programme, impressed with his contemporary Afro sound.
Fashion took centre stage with Ghanaian designer Dzogbefa’s sustainable showcase of naturally dyed fabrics and bold silhouettes. Off the runway, she leads a project creating reusable menstrual products for girls, tackling period poverty and promoting eco-friendly practices.
The Elevate Talent Programme, headed by Renato Saeroon, highlighted emerging acts including 12-year-old prodigy Jayce, whose stage presence drew admiration from audiences.
