"Africa must take charge of its energy future,” –  Jinapor

“Africa must take charge of its energy future.” With this bold statement, John Abdulai Jinapor, Minister of Energy for the Republic of Ghana, has set the tone for Africa Oil Week (AOW) 2025, the continent’s largest upstream oil and gas event, which will be hosted in Accra from 15th to 18th September 2025 at the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City.

Under Minister Jinapor’s leadership, Ghana will welcome Energy Ministers, National Oil Companies (NOCs), regulators, and global investors to Accra for a high-level gathering aimed at unlocking investment, strengthening strategic partnerships, and charting a unified course for Africa’s upstream energy sector.

“We are at a pivotal moment in the global energy landscape,” Minister Jinapor said. “Ghana is proud to host AOW 2025 and lead discussions on how Africa can secure investment, accelerate upstream production, and embrace decarbonization technologies. This event is not just about Ghana—it’s about Africa taking its place as a global energy leader.”

Ghana at the Forefront

As host nation, Ghana will present a dedicated National Showcase, where the new government will unveil its upstream strategy—centered on competitive regulations, investor incentives, and a renewed commitment to exploration. The showcase will also feature exclusive geological data on the Keta and Voltaian basins, offering new frontiers for international exploration companies.

In addition, the government is expected to announce ambitious new production targets, aiming to significantly increase daily output from the current 120,000–130,000 barrels per day. These targets align with the country’s broader vision to become a leading hub for upstream investment in West Africa.

A Strategic Continental Platform

AOW 2025 will also host the 7th APPO NOC CEO Meeting, bringing together the heads of Africa’s National Oil Companies in Accra. The meeting, facilitated by the African Petroleum Producers Organization (APPO) and GNPC, will provide a platform for collaboration on licensing rounds, energy security, and regional partnerships.

“Minister Jinapor’s leadership has been instrumental in positioning Ghana as a key voice in Africa’s energy transition,” said Edward Bawa, CEO of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). “We are honoured to welcome our peers from across the continent and the global industry to Accra.”

Paul Sinclair, CEO of AOW: Energy, echoed this sentiment, noting record interest in the 2025 edition of the event.

“We’re witnessing unprecedented momentum for AOW 2025, thanks in no small part to the commitment of Minister Jinapor and the Government of Ghana. Africa is entering a new chapter of upstream growth, and Ghana is playing a central role in shaping that future.”

About Africa Oil Week

Africa Oil Week is the leading platform for the African upstream oil and gas sector, facilitating deal-making between governments, NOCs, IOCs, and service providers. AOW 2025 will feature ministerial summits, investment forums, technical presentations, and exclusive networking opportunities.

With a robust agenda and strong leadership from John Jinapor, AOW 2025 is expected to be a watershed moment for Africa’s upstream energy development—an event for Africa, led by Africa.
