The Member of Parliament (MP) for Sekyere Afram Plains, Nasira Afrah Gyekye, has assured her constituents of her dedication to driving socio-economic growth within the district.

Speaking at the 68th Independence Day celebration under the theme “Reflect, Review, and Reset,” Nasira Gyekye reiterated her determination to enhance agriculture, education, healthcare, and infrastructure in the largely rural district.

As the first female MP for the area, she expressed deep gratitude to the people for placing their trust in her leadership and acknowledged the district’s pressing challenges, such as water scarcity, poor roads, inadequate healthcare, and low educational outcomes. However, she remains resolute in her pursuit of meaningful change.

“In Sekyere Afram Plains, we face unique challenges. Although it is the largest district in the Ashanti Region by land size, it remains one of the poorest, which shows that our independence is far from complete,” she remarked.

She emphasised agriculture’s central role in the district’s economy, stressing the importance of adopting modern farming practices, improving market access, and upgrading infrastructure to support local farmers.

“True independence for our people means improving the livelihoods of our farmers, ensuring quality education for our children, providing better healthcare, and improving our road networks and electrification,” she explained.

The MP further assured the people of her commitment to collaborating with stakeholders, government agencies, and development partners to address the district’s challenges.

“We need to reassess our strategies to align with the district’s specific needs, and we must reset our priorities to prioritize sustainable growth, particularly in agriculture and education,” she emphasised.

Nasira Gyekye called on residents to unite and contribute to the district’s development, sharing her vision for a prosperous Sekyere Afram Plains.

“I believe in the Sekyere Afram Plains dream, where we will leave behind a thriving and prosperous district for future generations. Together, we can create a better future,” she urged.

Despite its rich agricultural potential, Sekyere Afram Plains continues to face infrastructural deficits, limited healthcare access, and underdeveloped educational facilities. While previous administrations have worked towards improving conditions, many challenges persist.

Nasira Gyekye’s leadership marks a significant milestone, with her historic position as the first female MP raising hopes for renewed attention on development and inclusivity in the region.

As the people of Sekyere Afram Plains celebrated Ghana’s 68th Independence Day, they look forward to a future of growth and progress under the leadership of Nasira Afrah Gyekye.
