Afenyo-Markin calls for patience and unity as NPP battles internal challenges

The Minority Leader and Member of Parliament for Effutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has acknowledged the internal challenges confronting the New Patriotic Party (NPP) but expressed confidence that the party will overcome them and emerge stronger.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem programme, Afenyo-Markin urged both party leaders and grassroots members to remain patient, disciplined, and united as the NPP works through its current difficulties.

“We are facing some challenges as a party, and admittedly, these are not easy times. However, I strongly believe that God will help us overcome these challenges,” he said.

He noted that the NPP is not alone in experiencing internal struggles, adding that every political organisation faces similar tests.

“I want to remind all our party foot soldiers and leaders that we are not the only party going through these difficulties. I urge all party faithful to exercise patience as we work through these challenges together,” he appealed.

Making a difference: Is she Michelle Obama or Hillary Clinton? She is Samira Bawumia. And she’s back on the campaign trail

Addressing the issue of diverging interests within the party, Afenyo-Markin acknowledged that members may hold regional, religious, or tribal leanings, but stressed that the NPP’s collective interest must always come first.

“I know people have various interests—whether regional, religious, or tribal—but as long as you are an NPP member, your interest should be in the NPP and the NPP alone,” he asserted.

With the party’s presidential primaries set for January 31, Afenyo-Markin called on members to close ranks after the contest and rally behind whoever emerges victorious.

“After the 31st of January, we must support whoever emerges as the winner of the primaries. Whether it is Dr Bawumia, Honourable Kennedy Agyapong, Honourable Adutwum, Honourable Bryan Acheampong, or Kwabena Agyapong, we must come together as one party,” he urged.

He also cautioned members to be mindful of their words and actions during this period, warning that internal rivalries should not undermine party unity.

“I know some people still harbour bitterness, but I urge all NPP members to remember that unity is key. We need to focus on the bigger picture, which is the progress of the party and the nation,” Afenyo-Markin concluded.
