An aide to the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer has stated that the recent comments made by former Gender Minister, Adwoa Safo, regarding the party’s post-election review, do not reflect the views of the former Vice President.

Speaking in an interview on Joy FM‘s Newsnight on Thursday, March 20, Kofi Tonto, emphasised that while Adwoa Safo has the right to express her opinion, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia firmly believes in allowing the party’s internal structures to function properly.

“I think all Ghanaians, including the Honorable Adwoa Safo, have a right to their opinion. However, that is not the opinion of the former Vice President. He believes very strongly that we should allow structures to work,” he said.

His comments follow Adwoa Safo’s criticism of the election review committee, in which she questioned its credibility, suggesting it was formed to push a specific agenda rather than conduct an impartial review.

She also rejected any attempt to solely blame Dr Bawumia for the party’s electoral defeat, arguing that the process appeared to be manipulated to discredit him.

But Mr Tonto says they would wait for the committee to bring that report on the task assigned, and then “we can review it and assess the pros and cons.”

The Deputy General Secretary of the party, Haruna Mohammed, has criticised Adwoa Safo, for describing the committee investigating the party’s 2024 election loss as “bogus.”

According to him, the committee was established by the National Council, the second-highest decision-making body of the party, to examine the reasons behind the NPP’s defeat in the general elections.

Speaking on JoyFM’s Top Story, he stated that Prof Mike Oquaye is not the committee itself but rather its chairman, leading a group of prominent individuals.

He thus argued that it was inappropriate for Adwoa Safo to label the committee as “bogus.”

Meanwhile, the former Dome Kwabenya MP has been officially referred to the National Disciplinary Committee of the NPP for further action following her recent media engagements.

In a statement issued and signed by the General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, it said Adwoa Safo’s recent media engagement violated the party’s directives.
