ADR Expedition urges businesses to adopt mediation to resolve disputes

The 6th Annual Mediation Expedition, organised by the Gamey & Gamey ADR Institute, has concluded at the Aburi Botanical Gardens, with a call on for businesses and individuals to seek mediation services to effectively resolve disputes.

Held under the theme “Empowering Leaders with Mediation Skills for Sustainable Futures,” the three-day expedition brought together professionals from various disciplines alongside the graduating cohort of the Gamey & Gamey ADR Institute. Participants engaged in intensive simulation exercises and practical mediation sessions designed to enhance their competence, confidence, and ethical grounding in mediation practice.

Beyond the formal training, the expedition also featured community outreach activities in Aburi and neighbouring towns, where participants interacted with residents and sensitised them on the relevance of mediation in addressing conflicts, particularly those involving business, land, family, and chieftaincy matters.

Organised in collaboration with ADR Daily and HPW Fresh & Dry, the annual programme is part of the Institute’s ongoing mission to promote professionalism in ADR practice and expand public awareness of mediation as a credible, confidential, and peaceful avenue for conflict resolution.

During the expedition, participants demonstrated their acquired skills through simulated mediation of business, labour, workplace, investment, managerial, governance, land, community, and family disputes, reflecting the breadth of knowledge and experience gained from 31 weeks of professional training at the Institute.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Mr. Austin A. Gamey, Chief Executive Officer of the Gamey & Gamey Group, encouraged businesses and individuals who are confronted with disputes, to seek professional ADR services for amicable and expeditious resolution.

Because disputes are inherently costly, often draining valuable time, financial resources, and relationships that could otherwise be directed toward productivity and growth whether in the workplace, business, or community, he said mediation offers the most effective and affordable path to prevent such high cost and losses, as it enables parties to resolve issues swiftly, confidentially, and with mutually beneficial outcomes

Mr Gamey commended the participants for their diligence and commitment to mastering the principles and ethics of ADR.

“Mediation promotes understanding, restores relationships, and produces lasting solutions. Every dispute can be resolved more effectively when handled by trained professionals,” Mr. Gamey emphasized.

Also addressing participants, Dr. Samuel Mawusi Asafo, Chief Executive Officer of the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC), lauded the expedition as a model of leadership and conflict management training.

He underscored the growing importance of mediation skills for today’s managers and administrators, who must lead diverse teams and manage workplace challenges constructively.

Dr. Asafo encouraged leaders across sectors to pursue mediation training to strengthen their ability to manage human and organisational relationships, noting that leaders who can prevent or resolve internal conflicts directly contribute to the stability, productivity, and growth of their institutions.

He further introduced the Chartered Institute of Administrators and Management Consultants (CIAMC) to the participants, many of whom are senior executives and professionals, inviting them to consider professional membership and certification to enhance their administrative and management competencies.

In her remarks, Dr. Benedicta Awusi Atiku, Principal of the Dambai College of Education, praised the expedition’s focus on mediation as a tool for promoting harmony and problem-solving in educational environments. She observed that the increasing frequency of student unrest and staff-management tensions in schools highlights the urgent need to adopt mediation as a proactive mechanism for conflict prevention and resolution within the education sector.

Dr. Atiku stressed that mediation fosters open dialogue, mutual respect, and understanding among students, teachers, and administrators, and has the potential to improve governance and relationships within Ghana’s educational institutions.

Now in its sixth year, the Mediation Expedition continues to serve as a transformative experiential platform for advancing ADR practice, nurturing leadership in conflict management, and expanding public education on the value of peaceful dispute resolution across Ghana’s workplaces, communities, and institutions.
