The Head of the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Professor Seidu Alidu, has advised the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to fix its internal grievances to be properly positioned for the 2024 elections.

Some NDC stalwarts who spoke on PM Express on JoyNews on Monday expressed their grievances about some incidents they claimed were overlooked by the party leadership before and during the party’s presidential and parliamentary primaries.

Reacting to the issue on Topstory on JoyFM, Professor Alidu said the mere fact that these experienced politicians opened up to the media about their concerns means that the problem might have existed for some time.

“I don’t think the names you have mentioned are small boys in the NDC, they are big guys who have seen it all and have worked and toiled for the party, and they understand the available internal conflict resolution mechanisms put in place by the party.

“So for them to openly speak to the media suggests that either the internal conflict resolution mechanisms put in place are not working properly or they do not have confidence in it that it will work properly or work equitably for everybody who is a party to the conflict to benefit,” he said.

He added that these newly elected representatives have the party’s interest at heart, therefore, the party must pay keen attention to their concerns and find ways to address the situation.

“I don’t think they are small boys and the party has to take the concerns of these people very seriously because I think some of them have won others have lost. Those who have won will need the support of those that have lost to be able to run a complete and acceptable campaign at the constituency level,” he said.

He stressed that a party divided against itself cannot stand, therefore, the leadership must establish a committee to look into these matters to enable them properly prepare for the forthcoming elections.

Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George, Asawase MP Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, and another newly elected parliamentary candidate for Abura Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu are the three top NDC members who have criticized leadership of the party for failing to instill discipline.
