The Acting Chief Justice, on behalf of the Judicial Service of Ghana, has extended condolences to the family of the late former First Lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, describing her passing as a profound loss to the nation.
In a statement issued through the Judicial Secretary, the Acting Chief Justice noted that the former First Lady will be remembered for her unwavering advocacy for women’s empowerment and her instrumental role in advancing gender equality in Ghana.
“She was a visionary leader whose initiatives under the 31st December Women’s Movement helped transform the socio-economic status of countless women across the country,” the statement read.
The message also acknowledged Nana Konadu’s enduring legacy in national development and her commitment to public service, which inspired generations of Ghanaian women to participate actively in governance and leadership.
The Acting Chief Justice expressed sympathy to the Rawlings’ family and called for strength and comfort for all who mourn her.
Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings passed away on October 23, 2025, at age 76.
She served as Ghana’s First Lady from 1981 to 2001 and was a prominent figure in the country’s political and social landscape. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced by the family in the coming days.
