Accra Breweries PLC (ABL) today raised a toast to Ghana’s vibrant bar culture with its #CheersToBars celebration in Accra.
The event brought together the Bar Association of Ghana, bar owners, distributors, farmers, and industry leaders to honour the bar community’s vital role in driving livelihoods, fuelling national growth, and shaping a sustainable future for all Ghanaians.
Far more than a place to gather, bars are a powerful economic engine. According to an Oxford Economics study, in 2019 alone, Ghana’s beer economy contributed USD 392 million to GDP and generated USD 153 million in tax revenues, channelling critical resources into local communities.
The sector sustains over 52,000 jobs nationwide across agriculture, retail, distribution, and hospitality, proving that every pour supports families, businesses, and opportunities across the country.
“The beer economy is one of Ghana’s great engines of opportunity,” said Dederik Johannes Kruger, Country Director of Accra Breweries PLC. “Through #CheersToBars, we celebrate the partnerships between our brewery, bars, farmers, and retailers, collaborations that create jobs, inspire innovation, and foster inclusive growth. Bars are not just part of Ghana’s culture; they are pillars of our economy and our social life.”
At the heart of this impact is ABL’s GRIT initiative, which empowers more than 20,000 farmers and retailers, helping them build stronger, more resilient businesses that uplift rural and urban communities alike.
ABL is also raising the bar for sustainability. From integrating local maize, cassava, and sorghum farmers into its supply chain to investing in renewable energy, water efficiency, recycling, and waste reduction, ABL is aligning its operations with AB InBev’s global 2025 sustainability goals.
The brewery continues to combat illicit alcohol to safeguard public health, while championing innovation through consumer favourites like Shandy Bosoe and Corona Sunsets, proving that Ghana’s beer economy is as dynamic as it is impactful.
