Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South, Dr. Kingsley Agyemang has donated GH¢45,200 to the Kibi School for the Deaf to ensure continued feeding for students until the end of the academic term in July.

The intervention came in response to an urgent appeal by the school’s headmaster, Mr. Kumah Cephas, who disclosed that the institution was struggling to feed its students due to delays in government disbursements.

At a brief presentation ceremony, Dr. Agyemang shared his emotional reaction upon learning of the dire situation in the school.

“It is heartbreaking to learn that the children might go hungry from today till the end of the term. This support is to ensure that does not happen,” he said.

He explained that although the government allocates GH¢5 per student daily for meals, the funds had not been released for some time. In light of this, the NPP in Abuakwa South mobilised GH¢45,200 to bridge the funding gap and sustain feeding until the end of term.

Dr. Agyemang further urged community involvement in supporting special schools like Kibi School for the Deaf, emphasising that responsibility should not rest solely with the state.

“We have over 200 churches and 20 mosques in this municipality. We’ll begin a community dialogue to make the care of these schools a shared responsibility,” he stated.

Expressing deep appreciation, Headmaster Kumah Cephas thanked the MP and the NPP for their prompt and impactful response.

“Our cry was short, but they responded swiftly. This is not the first time Dr. Agyemang has helped us. He previously donated GH¢5,000 to get our school bus back on the road,” he recalled.

Mr. Kumah also noted the school’s recent academic strides, proudly announcing their advancement to the quarterfinals of a mathematics and science quiz competition for the first time.

Present at the brief event was the Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Comfort Ofori Appiah, who highlighted ongoing challenges, including teacher shortage and inadequate accommodation, which continue to affect the quality of education.

Dr. Agyemang reaffirmed his commitment to supporting the school and appealed to all stakeholders to contribute actively to the welfare of students in specialised institutions.
