The Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers have given the government and the Ghana Revenue Authority a two-week ultimatum to reverse certain decisions taken to ensure tax compliance and invigilation exercise.
The dealers describe the move as an intimidation and utmost disrespect to the association.
Head of Communications, Takyi Addo, explained that the association has been law-abiding, hence no need for this directive from the GRA.
“We are giving the government two weeks to engage the Ghana Revenue Authority, or else we will close our shops. Why should they be coming to sit at shops in the name of tax compliance”?
“We are serious this time and we are not relenting in our effort. We have had enough from the GRA. We won’t sit for them to intimidate us again and treat us anyhow all in the name of raising revenue”, he said.
The General Secretary of the association, Gifty Naana Fianu, explained that the association and its members are sending a signal to the government through the press conference to address some nuisance taxes.
“The taxes are too much and I think we need to look at it. Why we are doing this is to help save our businesses so government should do something about it”, she said
Earlier today, the association closed down the shops for an hour but promised to go haywire if the government fails to work to review some tax policies and reduce import charges.
