Member of the Public Accounts Committee in Parliament, Hon Ras Mubarak in Parliament on Tuesday, 1st September noted to the media that, he does not seem to understand the reason why Public Funds would be allocated to Institutions belonging to the State, who equally have had their budget allocation, without clarity.

“Hon Sam George came in with his public interest question which is most relevant, I can’t see why Public Funds would be given to Institutions of the state who equally have their budget allocation without providing clarity” he noted

According to him, all the Honorable Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon Sam Nartey George, and other members of the committee are seeking, is for the GNPC to provide clarity and justification on the allocation of funds to the other institutions.

“All the members were seeking clarity, what was bases, what was the justification … how do you give GNPC money to EOCO, what was the justification. GNPC needed to provide clarity” he further added.

He also added that he is embarrassed “as a Member of Parliament, who should be representing all the people in my constituency and indeed in the main public …and have another college from the other side, decided that because he feels a particular question may not be in the interest of the ruling government and for which reason he needs to battle it, is most unfortunate”.

Hon Ras Mubarak also explained that all parliamentarian represents the interest of the public, being it NDC or NPP and the Deputy Ranking Member of the committee, Hon Mohammed Tufeiru did wrong for trying to stop the Ningo-Prampram Member of Parliament from asking a question in the interest of the people when he was given the go-ahead by the chair of the committee.

The Public Accounts Committee today in parliament, in auditing the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Hon Sam George who doubles as a committee member brought evidence that shows an amount of GHC 5 million, was extended to some states institution of which, Ghc 120,00 went to the Rebecca Akufo-Addo Foundation, Ghc1.8million went to the Okyehene to help fund his 20th anniversary, Ghc400,000 for the Dumber festival, $30,000 to the Ghana Boxing Association, Ghc 50,000 was given to the Ghana Journalist Association and Ghc 550,000 to EOCO.

The above distribution was not meant to happen, according to the Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram and he added that there was no link to the duties of the GNPC.
