Minister of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare

The Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has announced government plans to support the establishment of three large-scale garment factories expected to generate about 27,000 jobs across the country.

She made this known at the Government Accountability Series held in Accra on Wednesday, January 21, explaining that the initiative forms part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s industrial base and expand employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.

According to the Minister, the garment industry presents one of the quickest pathways to job creation due to its labour-intensive nature and the relatively short training period required before workers can be fully productive.

“A garment factory employs a lot of people, and the good thing is that you don’t need months of training before you can start work,” Mrs Ofosu-Adjare said, describing the sector as ideal for large-scale employment.

She noted that the government will work closely with private sector partners to operationalise the factories, stressing that private enterprise remains central to the administration’s industrialisation and economic growth agenda.
