A fuel tanker accident on the Nyangbo–Tafi Mador road in the Volta Region on Tuesday, 13th January 2026, prompted an emergency response by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS).
According to firefighters, the incident occurred at approximately 6:05 a.m. when the tanker, en route from Accra to Yendi, overturned along the stretch of road, resulting in significant fuel spillage.

The driver sustained minor injuries in the accident and was swiftly conveyed to the Margaret Marquat Hospital in Kpando for medical treatment.
Firefighters from the Anfoega and Kpando Fire Stations responded promptly to the scene under the leadership of Divisional Officer III (DO III) Benjamin Yao Yaotse.

Their operation was supported by the Volta Regional GNFS towing truck, which played a key role in the recovery of the overturned vehicle.

Upon arrival, the firefighters immediately cordoned off the area, shut down the tanker’s engine and applied firefighting foam to the spilled fuel.
These measures were crucial in suppressing flammable vapours and preventing a possible explosion, thereby protecting motorists and nearby communities.

After the tanker was successfully recovered, the affected area was thoroughly made safe and the road reopened to traffic. No fatalities were recorded.
