Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has applauded first-time Members of Parliament for what he described as their “bold and effective contributions” to the debate on the 2026 Budget Statement.
Delivering his concluding remarks on the floor of the House, he said the new MPs displayed maturity, analytical depth and patriotic commitment in their submissions.
“Once again some of our first timers have risen to the occasion and made very impressive comments,” he declared.
Mr Ayariga noted that the quality of contributions from both sides of the House enriched the national conversation on fiscal policy and economic management.
He stated that the debate was “very revealing and informing,” reflecting a Parliament that is increasingly engaged and assertive.
According to him, this environment strengthens Ghana’s democracy and enhances accountability.
The Majority Leader also highlighted the balance of perspectives expressed during the debate, acknowledging that MPs had raised valid points both for and against the budget.
He stated that such diversity of views was important for shaping national policy.
“A lot has been said in favour of the budget and against the budget,” he observed, stressing that constructive criticism helps refine government decisions.
He assured the House that the government welcomes scrutiny and will continue to incorporate useful suggestions from all MPs.
Mr Ayariga reiterated that the 2026 Budget is built on prudence, growth and transformation, and reflects a collective commitment to national progress.
“This budget is prudent and designed to generate growth,” he said.
Concluding, he encouraged first-time MPs to remain active and vocal in the House.
“Your boldness has not gone unnoticed,” he stated.
“Continue to contribute meaningfully as we work together to build a stronger, more prosperous Ghana.”
