“I’m done with public service” - Former GTA boss Akwasi Agyeman

Former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority, Akwasi Agyeman, has said that he has no intention of returning to the Authority, even if the New Patriotic Party wins back power.

He says after the expiration of his tenure has ended and he is now focused on commitments outside public service.

“I’m not coming back to the GTA: I have served my term eight years and I believe it is time for others to also gain the experience,” he said in an interview with George Quaye on Joy Prime’s PrimeTime..

He stressed that his decision is final and not linked to the political future of any party.

Agyeman said he has begun work on projects that now demand his full attention.

“I have started a major project and set up a Centre for Tourism, Hospitality and Aviation, which launched last year. I also have projects in other countries to attend to,” he said.

These ventures, he noted, mark the next stage of his professional life.

Looking back on his years in office, he said he has closed the chapter on public service.

“Honestly, I’m done with public service. This year, we organized African Week in October in the UK as part of Black History Month, and I think that was a fitting conclusion to my service.”

He added that the Ghana Tourism Authority and the wider tourism sector would benefit from new leadership and new ideas.

“I think it’s time for some other people to also experience and contribute,” he said, adding that he is confident the industry will continue to grow under those who come after him.
