
President John Mahama has today inaugurated a ten-member inter-ministerial committee to oversee Ghana’s participation in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The committee will be chaired by deputy chief of staff Stan Xoese Dogbe. He will be assisted by foreign affairs minister Samuel O. Ablakwa.
The ministers for Sports and Recreation (Kofi Adams), Youth Development (George Opare), deputy Tourism and Culture Yusif Jajah, deputy Finance minister Ampem Nyarkoh, and GFA chairman (Kurt Okraku) will also serve on the committee.
Deputy National Security Coordinator, Elizabeth Yankah, Former Footballer Abedi Pele, and Mrs Wilhelmina Asamoah, Chief Director at Sports Ministry are the other members of the committee.
An additional member will be appointed from the private sector to serve on the committee.
Speaking at Wednesday’s inauguration ceremony, Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams said; ‘‘at the last cabinet meeting, a decision was made to set up a team of this nature to oversee the general planning of activities coordinating Ghana’s participation at the World Cup.
‘‘It is necessary to ensure proper coordination between the technical and all other individual components so that we do not work in silos.’’
Government has already allocated an amount of 150 million Ghana cedis for the tournament.
