The Ghana Publishers Association is calling on the government to initiate an urgent dialogue to harmonise existing policies and make them relevant to the country’s future educational needs.
The President of the Association, Asare Konadu Yamoah, speaking at the 48th Annual General Meeting themed, “Policy as a Catalyst: Transforming Ghana’s Publishing Ecosystem for National Development,” emphasised the need for broad stakeholder engagement on existing policies.
“So we believe that right from the processes of our development the writing of books and all that government must intervene. And this intervention is all about giving us guidelines, guiding us,” he said.
He added that there must be a structured promotion system for books to ensure uniformity and sustainability within the sector.
“The promotion of how the books should be in the system so government and stakeholders will fashion out something, and then we are able to go through it, and it’s working for us.”
Mr. Yamoah further noted that the government’s lack of response to the Association’s persistent calls remains its greatest challenge.
“So I see that the main opportunity that we can have is that government should listen to us, sit down with us, and together develop a very progressive publishing ecosystem.”
The Ghana Publishers Association has long been advocating for a national publishing strategy aligned with educational reform, youth development, and cultural pride.
The Association believes it is time for government to take decisive action.
