Daddy Lumba’s wife and sister demand probe into his death

The widow and elder sister of the late highlife musician Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, have called for an independent investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death which occurred on 26th July 2025, in Ghana.

In a statement issued on 13th October 2025, Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh (Lumba’s wife based in Germany) and Ms Ernestina Fosuh (Lumba’s elder sister) said the family was deeply concerned about conflicting accounts of how the 60-year-old musician passed away.

They have therefore appealed to both Ghanaian and German authorities to conduct a transparent and thorough inquiry.

According to Akosua Serwaa and Ernestina Fosuh, three different versions have emerged regarding the highlife artiste’s death.

The statement indicates that in one account, an eyewitness claimed that on the night of the incident, Mr Fosuh called a friend to his residence but the friend was allegedly prevented from seeing him by a woman living with the musician. The friend reportedly waited for nearly two hours before leaving, only to later receive a call informing him of Lumba’s death.

Their statement also cites a report from the Ghana Police Service to the Coroner at the District Magistrate Court in Accra which mentions that Daddy Lumba, a known diabetic, complained of pain in his legs and waist on 24 July 2025 and was taken to the Sunshine Diagnostic Centre for an MRI scan. The report said he was later placed under anaesthesia due to agitation and fear, developed severe pain afterwards, and died at the Bank Hospital on 26th July, 2025.

However, in a third account, a woman identified as Ms Priscilla O. gave a different version to the family. The statement says she initially said the deceased had been taken to the Bank Hospital where he received an injection that caused severe pain before his death. But when questioned again the next day by a relative, she reportedly changed her account, claiming that Mr Fosuh died at home and that she cleaned and dressed the body before calling another woman, Serwaa A., to help transport him to the hospital.

“These contradictory versions have left the family deeply concerned and distressed, raising serious questions about the true cause of death and whether proper medical and investigative procedures were followed,” the statement highlights.

The family, represented by Mrs Akosua Serwah Fosuh and Ms Ernestina Fosuh, said they had contacted the German Embassy in Accra, the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA) in Wiesbaden, and the German Federal Foreign Office in Berlin to assist in finding answers.

They are also calling on the Ghana Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) to question Ms Priscilla O. and Mr Philip Kwabena A. (also known as Roman Fada) in connection with the case.

The family has submitted relevant documents, including medical reports, official correspondence, and confirmation from Transition Funeral Home regarding the handling of the remains. They maintain that only a transparent and independent investigation can determine the exact cause of death.

In a joint statement, the widow and sister said: “We, the family of the late Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, loved him dearly and are devastated by the unclear and conflicting reports surrounding his death. We have confidence that both the German and Ghanaian authorities will work together to uncover the truth, ensure justice, and bring transparency to this painful situation.”

In the meantime, Akosua Serwaa Fosuh is also seeking injunction on the funeral of the late Daddy Lumba for being not being involved in the funeral arrangements.

She has also asserted that she is the legally married wife of the legendary highlife musician.
