The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential campaigns have welcomed the Council of Elders’ decision to monitor the conduct of aspirants and their supporters ahead of the party’s January 2026 primaries.
Speaking on Joy FM’s Top Story, spokesperson for Kennedy Agyapong’s team, Kwasi Kwarteng, commended the initiative, describing it as “an extension of the party’s mechanisms to ensure integrity in the process.”
He said the camp fully supports any effort “to protect the sanctity of the electoral process” and suggested the inclusion of “a reward mechanism” for aspirants who maintain decorum.
Spokesperson for Bryan Acheampong’s camp, Dr. Adomako Kissi, also expressed support, saying they “welcome oversight of the entire electioneering process,” but called for fairness and transparency to dispel perceptions of bias.
For the Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia campaign, spokesperson Dennis Miracles Aboagye expressed gratitude to the elders, saying the measure is timely given the “level of attacks” seen so far. “It’s quite interesting that almost everyone feels victimized. If that’s the case, then it should end,” he added.
Also speaking on JoyNews’ The Pulse, Spokesperson for Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum’s campaign team, Yaw Opoku Mensah, backed the move, saying, “It is a good call. We shouldn’t wait to be told the parameters of the kind of language to use when dealing with delegates.”
The Council of Elders on Wednesday announced that its Ad Hoc Committee has begun monitoring campaign activities to ensure a peaceful, respectful, and issue-based contest in line with the NPP’s values and traditions.
