Sam George claps back at Ntim Fordjour over ‘NDC Footsoldiers’ comment

Communications Minister and Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Sam Nartey George, has taken a swipe at the Ranking Member on Parliament’s Defence and Interior Committee, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, over comments suggesting that National Democratic Congress (NDC) footsoldiers under the age of 28 are not “Ghanaian enough” to serve in the security forces.

Sam George, in a Facebook post, renewed his call for Ghana to review the age limit for enlistment into the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). His position was backed by Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor, the MP for South Dayi, who cited examples from several countries where the maximum enlistment age ranges between 30 and 35 years.

The two legislators argued that Ghana should raise its current age ceiling to 35 years to expand opportunities for qualified citizens who remain physically fit beyond the existing limit.

However, Rev. Ntim Fordjour dismissed the proposal, suggesting that such a change would merely open the door for “average NDC footsoldiers” to join the military.

In a strongly worded response on Facebook, Sam George mocked the NPP MP’s comments with biting sarcasm, describing his reasoning as “rich” and “wise.”

“Sometimes, just sometimes, silence makes one appear wise and knowledgeable,” he wrote. “The logic espoused by my friend and colleague is so rich that I am lost for words. Let us celebrate the depth of his knowledge and the latitude of his wisdom.”

Rev. Ntim Fordjour had reportedly implied that individuals aged 18 to 27 were unfit or insufficiently patriotic to serve as NDC footsoldiers — a statement Sam George found deeply problematic.

“NDC footsoldiers only qualify to be footsoldiers once they are 28 years old, and those between 18 and 27 years are not Ghanaian enough to serve,” George wrote, highlighting what he described as flawed and divisive reasoning.

He concluded his post with a jab at the New Patriotic Party (NPP), writing:
“Massive respect to the NPP’s lead person on Defence and Interior. He is the best they have. They truly have the men.”
