CEO Network Ghana calls for urgent, decisive action to end galamsey

The CEO Network Ghana welcomes the recent statement by President John Dramani Mahama, affirming that he will not hesitate to declare a State of Emergency in areas affected by illegal mining (Galamsey) if advised by the National Security Council.

The Network views this position as a signal of leadership and readiness to confront one of Ghana’s most destructive national challenges. It emphasises that the Galamsey crisis is not a partisan issue but a moral, civic, and environmental emergency that demands unified action.

“The government has the power to solve the nation’s problems,” the Network stated. “As citizens, we continue to give the government the benefit of the doubt—but our patience comes with purpose. The fight against Galamsey is not optional; it is a national duty.”

In a statement signed by Ernest Egyir De-Graft, Founding CEO of CEO Network Ghana, the organisation reaffirmed its unflinching commitment to supporting national efforts to eradicate illegal mining. The Network also pledged to use its platforms to drive awareness, accountability, and citizen engagement on this critical issue.

“We will continue to mount constructive pressure on the government to act decisively, enforce the law, and protect our lands and water bodies,” Mr Egyir De-Graft stated. “This is not politics; it’s patriotism. Together, we can end the Galamsey menace and secure Ghana’s future.”

The CEO Network Ghana further called for coordinated collaboration between the government, traditional leaders, civil society, and the private sector to build lasting frameworks that promote sustainable development, protect the environment, and preserve national integrity.

“Our collective future depends on responsible stewardship,” he added. “If we fail to act now, the damage to our environment, livelihoods, and identity as a people will be irreversible.”

The CEO Network Ghana remains a steadfast ally in the national campaign against Galamsey and continues to advocate for policies that align environmental protection with economic growth and social progress.
