Ghana to hold women and youth agribusiness summit

Ghana’s agribusiness sector is set for a significant boost as preparations intensify for the Eligreen Women and Youth Agribusiness Exhibition Summit (EWAYES 25), scheduled for 13–14 October 2025 at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The two-day summit, organised by the Eligreen Agribusiness Hub in partnership with Ghana EXIMBANK, the Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industries, and the Presidential Initiative on Agriculture and Agribusiness (PIAA), is endorsed by President John Mahama.

It is expected to draw more than 5,000 participants from across the country and beyond, including women entrepreneurs, youth-led startups, policymakers, development partners, and international investors.

Under the theme “Breaking Barriers: Securing Market and Financial Access for Women and Youth in Agribusiness”, the summit seeks to address the long-standing challenges facing smallholder farmers, women-led enterprises, and young agripreneurs, particularly access to finance, technology, and sustainable markets.

Data from the Eligreen Agribusiness Hub show that Ghana’s agriculture and agribusiness sector was valued at US$12 billion in 2023, with projections indicating growth to US$18 billion by 2030.

Experts argue that eliminating barriers for women and youth will unleash new opportunities for wealth creation, food security, and rural transformation.

“By empowering women and youth in agribusiness, we are strengthening food security, creating jobs, and building climate-smart rural economies,” said Hon. Sophia Karen Edem Ackuaku, founder of the Eligreen Agribusiness Hub and former MP for Domeabra-Obom.

Packed agenda for change

The summit will feature policy dialogues, exhibitions, business-to-business (B2B) forums, capacity-building workshops, mentorship sessions, and digital training clinics.

One of the highlights will be the unveiling of solar-powered processing units and irrigation systems, an innovation organisers say will help advance climate-smart agriculture in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Organisers anticipate that more than 70% of participants will either launch or scale up agribusiness ventures, with access to capital, improved technologies, and formal market linkages by the end of the event.

National platform for transformation

With its wide mix of stakeholders, including NGOs, donor agencies, private investors, and policymakers, EWAYES 25 is expected to advance Ghana’s food security agenda and position the country as a hub for agribusiness innovation in the sub-region.

“This is more than just a summit; it is a national platform to unlock opportunities, share knowledge, and connect stakeholders across the agricultural value chain,” Ackuaku noted.
